In Memoriam Pocok
Ég veled, Pocok!
2007.06.25.–2018.10.08.
Ez a rész Pocokról szól. Pocokról, aki a davir dog design inspirációja volt, 2009-ben, a kezdeteknél. A bohó, puha, szőrös, játékos, néha idegesítően túlpörgő, csupa rózsaszín nyelv és szőrös tappancs, csupa élet, (időnként zizegő) vibrálás.
Jackson
agyú Pocok, a kedves, bújós, néha erőszakosan nyomulós Pocok, a mindenáron
emeletre följutni akaró (és a lépcsőkorlát funkciót betöltő polcon könyvek
között fennakadó Pocok, a weisskircheni-i megállónknál kisfiunkkal békésen
falatozó Pocok, a würzburgi szőlősorok között rohanó Pocok… hosszan
sorolhatnám.
Ezer
kép, ezer emlék, kedvesek, akkor idegesítő, utólag már megmosolyogtató emlékek
sora.
kapcsolatunk?
Nem.
Pocok tökéletesen dolgozott, munkaszituációban mindent csinált, kétszeres,
háromszoros elánnal, túlteljesítve a tervet.
Beszéltem is tulajdonosokkal,
akiknek kutyájuk ennek jeleit mutatta, állatorvossal, specialistával, a kedves
Pocok
hirtelen öregedett meg, szinte egyik pillanatról a másikra, kutyaidőben mérve
is túl gyorsan. Először csak azt vettük
észre, hogy rosszul lát. Aztán az agya, a kis buksija. Sokat aludt, alig ismert
meg minket. Hirtelen erőtlen lett, folyton szétcsúsztak a lábai a kövön. A
ahol a legjobban érzi magát.
kutyára, aki a davir dog design megalkotására késztetett, sok szép színes
is tanította.

This part is about Pocok.
About Pocok, who was the inspiration behind davir dog design, back in 2009, at the very beginning. The goofy, soft, furry, playful one, sometimes annoyingly overexcited, all pink tongue and furry paws, all life and (occasionally buzzing) energy.
Jackson Pocok (with a paintbrush in his mouth), Pocok the tunnel digger, Pocok jumping out of the back of the car without asking and charging into the 'Fészek' store, only to scurry back out with his tail tucked firmly between his legs; Pocok plunging into the sea — obviously intending to swim across it, because it took us a good 20 metres before we managed to get his attention, and he only turned back when I was already desperately taking my clothes off to swim after him —; Pocok, endlessly curious, always wanting to know everything, always wanting something; Pocok with the blindingly intelligent, almost genius brain; sweet Pocok, cuddly Pocok, sometimes aggressively pushy Pocok; Pocok determined to get upstairs at all costs (and getting himself stuck among the books on the shelf that served as the stair railing); Pocok peacefully snacking with our little son during our stop in Weisskirchen; Pocok running through the vineyards of Würzburg… I could go on and on.
A thousand pictures, a thousand memories. Sweet memories, memories that were irritating at the time but make us smile now.
And then, over the years, things slowly began to change. It took us a long time to realise, almost with disbelief, that something was not working properly inside Pocok. He was no longer the same sweet dog. Sometimes it was as if “he wasn’t quite himself”. He became short-tempered and aggressive. Later he began to bite and attack when something displeased him… At those moments he lost control. His eyes changed. It was difficult for him to come back to himself afterwards. He was confused, bewildered… And as is so often the case, our first instinct was to blame ourselves: Did I do something wrong? Did I raise him badly? Does he not get enough exercise or stimulation?Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with our relationship? No.
Pocok worked perfectly. In a work situation, he did everything — with twice, three times the energy, always exceeding the plan. In fact, that was precisely why it was never really possible to work well with him. He was not reliable, because he found it so difficult to switch off. Professional working-dog people might have said that he was simply behaving like a working dog. But that wasn’t what was happening with him. He lived at such a high temperature, burned so intensely and constantly — whenever he wasn’t asleep — that I am convinced this relentless energy consumed him before his time. And we could only stand by and watch, helplessly, without the tools to do anything about it.
Especially among spaniel owners, some people have heard of Rage Syndrome. I spoke to owners whose dogs were showing signs of it. I spoke to a vet, a specialist, and to the kind female doctor who researches this condition (or behavioural disorder, call it what you will). She gave me two hours of her time, went through Pocok’s case with me in detail, and told me — and I really had to believe her — that there was no hope. From that point on, it would only be downhill. We should have him put to sleep. Chemical or genetic, it made no difference. There was no way out.
We couldn’t have him put to sleep. Not then.
Pocok suddenly grew old. Almost from one moment to the next — far too quickly even by dog years. At first, all we noticed was that he couldn’t see properly. Then it was his brain, his little head. He slept a lot and barely recognised us. He suddenly became weak; his legs kept sliding apart on the stone floor. His coat turned grey, dull and worn. But he still had an appetite. Oh, he certainly did. And he would still come over when we stroked his head. He would come, push his head against us, and then growl and try to bite me. I don’t think that bitterness will ever go away.
But that is not how I remember him. I remember the beautiful male Pumi in the prime of his life. Strong and cheerful Pocok, his ears flying as he raced across the marshy meadow, the place where he was happiest. I remember the kind one, the clever one, the strong one. The dog who inspired me to create davir dog design. The wearer of so many beautiful, colourful collars and leashes. The dog who was such a defining part of our young adult lives, who was there when our little boy was born, and who our son was able to grow up alongside. The dog I learned from, and the dog who taught Juharka, too. The dog who, in truth, was nothing but love, light and pure life.
